Saving can be done even during vacation time. This season, think about staying at home instead of traveling to distant parts of the country. Take some time to watch all of the movies one wants to watch. How about the top ten movies of all time? Spartacus, Ben-Hur, and All Quiet On the Western Front might be some movies to watch. Maybe borrow the epic movies from a friend. Movies like Star Wars, Lord of the Ring, and Harry Potter might be found in this category. Or watch every season of that television show one wants to watch. How about 24 or The A-Team shows. Documentaries by Ken Burns or Band of Brothers might fit the bill. Just buy some popcorn, some soda, and some pizza and make it a Ken Burns Vacation.
If one desires to meet up with friends and family, this can be done at a central location. A meal, or cup of coffee would make the meeting go smoothly. In addition to this, calling ones relatives and talking on the phone for an hour or two might be a great way to connect while staying at home.
But first, one must make a vacation budget. Things to consider is food, healthy or not, money for the movies, DVD or Internet. This can all be done on a tight budget, significantly less than traveling across the nation, renting a car and hotel room. Borrow movies from family and friends can also save money too. Invite them over to watch it too and have them bring the food to share, like in a potluck. This makes gift giving easy too. Purchasing movies for ones family can be a great gift. This can all be done on half the budget it would cost for travels and buying expensive gifts. But it is important to remember to give during the vacation too. Make a donation to the local church with the extra one has. Volunteering might also be a good way to spend ones time away from the television.
